Non-Standard Recycling Blades

Plastic Pelletizing Knife

Our pelletizer knives are crafted from wear-resistant, high-alloy steels and tungsten carbide to deliver exceptional durability, hardness, and edge retention. These materials are selected to withstand the high-impact, abrasive conditions inherent in pelletizing applications, ensuring precise cuts and consistent pellet size. Each knife undergoes specialized heat treatment to enhance toughness and resist chipping, while the corrosion-resistant properties prolong the knife's lifespan in both wet and dry environments. This advanced material selection is ideal for achieving optimal efficiency and product quality in demanding pelletizing processes.

Where Plastic Pelletizing Knives Are Used

Pelletizing knives are the primary cutting element in strand pelletizing and die-face cutting systems. They shear extruded polymer strands or melt streams into uniform granules at high cycle rates. Typical applications include:

  • Strand pelletizing lines processing PET, PE, PP, nylon, and filled engineering compounds
  • Die-face cutter systems for direct-melt pelletizing on high-output extruder lines
  • Underwater pelletizing units handling heat-sensitive or low-viscosity polymers
  • Plastic recycling extruder lines converting film, sheet, and fiber waste into uniform pellets

Knife geometry, blade count, edge angle, and steel grade must be matched to both the pelletizing system (EREMA, Gala, Berstorff, or OEM) and the polymer being processed. A mismatch shortens knife life and produces off-spec pellets.

Pelletizing Knife Grade Selection

Choosing the wrong grade wastes money on either premature wear or over-specified cost. The guidelines below are based on actual production conditions:

  • D2 / SKD11 (HRC 58–62): Standard choice for most plastic recycling and compounding lines. Delivers the best balance of wear resistance and toughness for abrasive-free or lightly filled compounds.
  • M2 / HSS (HRC 62–65): For high-cycle, elevated-temperature environments and fast strand speeds where edge retention under heat is critical.
  • Tungsten Carbide: Required for glass-filled, mineral-filled, or carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers where D2 would wear out rapidly between changes.
  • SK5 / SK7 / 9CrSi: Cost-effective for lower-abrasion materials when premium grades would be over-specified for the application.

All grades are vacuum heat-treated to uniform hardness throughout the blade cross-section, eliminating the soft spots that cause premature edge chipping in production. Yishi can produce knives to your exact drawing or worn sample — blade count, bolt-hole pattern, outer diameter, thickness, and edge profile are all configurable. Typical lead time for custom profiles is 7–15 business days.

Types of Pelletizer Knives We Manufacture

We supply pelletizer knives for all major pelletizing configurations:

  • Strand pelletizer knives – Straight blades that cut cooled plastic strands into uniform pellets. Available in single-bevel and double-bevel geometries.
  • Underwater pelletizer knives – High-hardness rotating blades engineered for continuous operation submerged at the die face. Manufactured in HSS or tungsten carbide grades depending on polymer abrasiveness.
  • Die-face cutter blades – For air-cooled and water-ring pelletizers; precision-balanced for high-speed rotation against the die plate.
  • Ring pelletizer blades – Annular knife configurations for specific extruder head geometries.

Compatible Equipment & Materials Processed

Our pelletizer knives are dimensionally compatible with leading OEM equipment including Gala, Berstorff, Davis-Standard, and Farrel systems. We supply knives for PVC, polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), ABS, nylon, TPE/TPR, and engineering resins.

All pelletizer knives are produced to custom dimensions. Submit your drawing or send a worn sample for reverse engineering. Contact us for a confirmed lead time and quote.
